O Lord, Be Our Father

I once heard a worship leader explain how the songs we sing can (and should) vary in the direction that we sing them. Sometimes, the song is clearly talking horizontally to the people next to us (i.e. "Come, ye sinners poor and needy"). Other times, our songs may be directed towards our own hearts in self-reflection (i.e. "Why, my soul are your so dejected?").

This song is a prayer to God, based on Isaiah 64:8-9. It is vertical in focus and corporate in voice. Isaiah beautifully pleads with God to show mercy as a loving Father. As creature to Creator, Isaiah asks for kindness and mercy on behalf the whole congregation. It is my hope that this song helps you reverberate this prayer of intercession and assurance in your own life and church.

I employed a familiar tune, CRADLE SONG (Kirkpatrick) for this song. I wanted it to be easily taught and sung without a new melody to learn. And the lullaby feel of CRADLE SONG reinforces the Father imagery in the lyrics.
